The Order of the Golden Fleece
#SM-GFC - The Order of the Golden Fleece was founded in 1430 at Bruges in Flanders by Phillip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, as a chivalric order of the Grand Duke and twenty-three brother knights, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin and St. Andrew. The purpose of the Order was to defend the Roman Catholic Religion. The symbol of the order, the Golden Fleece, harkens back to the mythical Jason and his voyage to Argo for the sacred Golden Fleece, and also to the great wealth amassed by Flanders from the wool trade.
Our ornate and heavy pewter chain includes a three-dimensional, gold-plated pewter golden fleece pendant. The overall length of this chain is 102cm, the pendant measures 7cm by 5cm. Imported.
